Inventory of Who is Monitoring What in Indiana

Page history last edited by lesman@... 14 years, 11 months ago

This site provides a list of programs that conduct statewide water monitoring, organized by parameters that are being monitored.  The  parameters are organized by the general parameter types (such as nutrients) listed in the form of goals (i.e., Reduce Nutrients) below.

The purpose of this organization is so that the potential for various parameters to serve as performance measures for showing improvement towards that water quality goal (i.e., Reduce Nutrients) in Indiana can be discussed and evaluated.  A list with similar information, but organized instead by statewide program, is located at http://monitoringprotocols.pbworks.com/.

This information will also allow the water monitoring community to potentially gain access to other monitoring data, determine accepted methods of data collection, and/or focus their monitoring efforts on parameters not already being monitored.

To use this site, first choose an overall goal for water quality improvement.  Under each goal is a list of parameters that can be monitored to measure improvement.  Each parameter will indicate programs within Indiana that are monitoring for the parameter, the general measurement method used, frequency and seasonality of sampling, and a link to the specific monitoring protocol.

Overall Goals:

Reduce Nutrients

Reduce Sediments

Reduce Pesticides  (no statewide monitoring)

Reduce Pathogens

Restore Aquatic Communities

Restore Stream Channel & Habitat

Restore Hydrology

Address Miscellaneous Pollutants
